Observing changes in our use of words

Every once in a while, something will catch my eye while clipping the coupons from the Sunday paper. This week it was an ad for these:
May I introduce "pitted dried plums" - aka the dried fruit formerly known as "prunes". Calling them prunes is much less glamorous I suppose, as we might associate that word with grandmas, regularity, and flatulence. Whereas "pitted dried plums" don't carry that same kind of mental baggage yet. Sorry people, but not all of us are fooled by your updated nomenclature!
